Doreen began her artistic career in 1981 when she attended the National College of Art in Dublin. She was taught under the directiion of the late Henry Healy, RHA. Having studied with a strongly restricted palette, she then progressed to develop her own technique. She is influenced by the atmospheric skies, moody landscapes and the wild Atlantic. Her preferred medium is oil on canvas and the palette knife features strongly in her work.
She draws her inspiration from the magnificent scenery of the West of Ireland, including the Cliffs of Moher, the fishing villages, the starkness of the Burren, the hookers at \kinvara and the wild exotic beauty of her birthplace, Achill Island.
Her painting technique has been described as loose and fluid. She uses a brush and knife to create the shapes and images and a palette carefully chosen and mixed to portray the exquisite colours of the West of Ireland.
